The first new Edition of the Laws since 1950 has now been published. The first issue stated the law of the Falkland Islands as at 1st January 1993 and an upkeep service brought and maintained the Laws to 2005. This is not only a vital major publishing project for the Falkland Islands but it is also the first British Colonial law revision to incorporate comprehensive details of all local and UK legislation applicable to the Colony, and to be fully annotated. Significant reports of decisions of the Falkland Islands courts are published for the first time. The Falkland Islands are assuming increasing importance in commercial and industrial life, with their traditional agricultural industries being accompanied by new major investments in offshore oil and gas exploration, other land-based mineral prospecting, and the development of an international fishing industry with special significance for the Pacific-rim countries. The Revised Laws are in loose-leaf format and are updated each year. All seven volumes are now available--Volume 1 (covering The Constitution and Title 2 (Admiralty) to Title 18 (Company Law & Partnership)), Volume 2 (covering Title 19 (Constitutional & Administrative Law) to Title 24 (Criminal Procedure)), Volume 3 (covering Title 25 (Currency) to Title 37 (Extradition)), Volume 4 (covering Family Law (Title 38) to Medicine & Pharmacy (Title 49)), Volume 5 (covering Mental Health (Title 50) to Prisons (Title 60), Volume 6 (covering Public Health (Title 61) to War & Emergency (Title 74)) and Volume 7 (Index, Tables and Law Reports). Since the retirement of Dr. Milner as Law Revision Commissioner in 2005, the project has been maintained in the Falkland Islands and it is planned to transfer future production to CD-ROM.
